Career Services has had a positive impact on my life with the resources they have made available to me. Firstly, they have assisted me in tailoring my CV and cover letter. Additionally, the websites with vacancies available for the degree I studied were helpful during job hunting. Career Services has assisted me until I found employment and I am grateful for that.

Will you recommend Career Services to other students? Why?

Yes, I would recommend Career Services to other students for the reasons mentioned above. Additionally, they offer mock interviews that prepare you for questions you can expect in a real-life interview, as well as offer you advice on how to improve to have a better chance to secure the job.

What is your current occupation or job?

Research and development intern.

What top three tips do you have for students and graduates entering job hunting season now?

The first tip would be patience and perseverance. No matter how long it takes, do not give up. Even after the rejections, keep looking because there is a company out there that is in need of your skills, and you will find it. Secondly, do not be idle while looking for a job. Get involved in volunteering or some programme in your community. Thirdly, network within your field. You can start as small as your former classmates and the network will grow from there.

What impact has Career Services had in your life?

Career Services has significantly impacted my life by providing highly beneficial guidance, tools, and collaboration opportunities. As a former Career Ambassador, I have gained experience in event planning, teamwork, communication, and leadership. The department has helped me to revamp my professional profile, improve interview skills, and explore career paths. It has given me a chance, even though l had zero experience, and it has opened so many opportunities for me and enhanced my employability.

I would gladly recommend Career Services to other students, because it provides the following: career guidance on choosing a suitable career path, résumé building and interview prep, enabling students to improve their chances of landing their dream job. It also organises career fairs, industry events, and alumni networking sessions, allowing students to connect with professionals in their desired field.

What is your current occupation or job?

I am currently working as an Intern in the office of the Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

What do you wish you had done at university that would have assisted you more in your job today?

I wish I had developed stronger networking skills and connections, improved my public speaking skills, and explored entrepreneurship, innovation, or creative problem-solving.

Leverage social media platforms such as LinkedIn to expand your network and engage with potential employers. Do not underestimate the power of informational interviews or coffee chats to gain insights and advice from experienced professionals.
  • Develop a strong application package- Craft a tailored CV and cover letter for each job application, highlighting relevant experience and researching common questions, practising your responses, and preparing thoughtful questions to ask employers. Consider seeking feedback from Career Services or mentors to improve your application materials.
