I am a foundation phase educator.
What do you wish you had done at university that would have assisted you more in your job today?
I think that participating in more practical experiences, such as student teaching or internships, would have better prepared me for the challenges of teaching in a real classroom. These experiences could have given me the hands-on training and practice that would have made my transition into the profession smoother.
I wish I had taken advantage of more opportunities to network with experienced teachers and education professionals. These connections could have provided me with valuable advice and support during my first years of teaching. Another thing I think would have been beneficial is getting involved in professional organizations and attending conferences related to education. This would have exposed me to new ideas and best practices in the field and helped me stay up to date on the latest developments in education.
What top three tips do you have for students and graduates entering job hunting season now?
Start your job search early and be proactive about networking. Connect with people in your field and attend career fairs and job events to make connections and learn about opportunities. Try interviewing with a career counselor. This will help you feel more confident and prepared when you go into the interview.
