What impact has Career Services had in your life?
Career Services has had a positive impact on my career and university years in several ways. Firstly, they helped me learn how to structure a proper CV and write impressive cover letters, which are essential for job applications. Their guidance and expertise significantly improved the quality of my application materials. Additionally, Career Services provides valuable resources and information about available job vacancies, allowing me to stay updated and apply for relevant positions. I have also found their CV reviews to be very helpful, as they provide constructive feedback that has enhanced my CV for potential employers. Furthermore, I appreciate the patience and support they show towards students, as they were always willing to assist me with CV reviews, even when I visited them multiple times a week during my final year. Overall, Career Services has played a crucial role in shaping my career journey and has been an invaluable resource throughout my university experience.
Will you recommend Career Services to other students? Why?
I highly recommend Career Services to other students because of the positive impact it has on students' lives. They provide comprehensive assistance with CV and cover letter writing, as well as review services to ensure that your application materials are of high quality. Not only do they focus on helping students with their CVs, but they also prepare us for interviews, which is a crucial aspect of the job-hunting process. Additionally, Career Services keeps students informed about available job vacancies in their respective fields, which is extremely beneficial to those seeking employment. Their dedication to students' career development and their expertise in the job search process make them an invaluable resource on campus. I believe that utilising the services offered by Career Services can greatly enhance students' chances of securing their desired job opportunities.
What is your current occupation or job?
I am currently working as a public relations specialist.
What do you wish you had done at university that would have assisted you more in your job today?
Looking back, I wish I had explored more opportunities outside of my specific field of study, such as media relations. Although I was involved in Kovsie FM as a radio broadcaster and news manager, I realise now that gaining experience in other areas, such as being part of the team responsible for managing the campus social media websites, would have further enhanced my skills and knowledge in media relations. This broader experience would have been beneficial in my current role as a public relations specialist.
What top three tips do you have for students and graduates entering job hunting season now?
Here are my top three tips for students and graduates entering the job-hunting season:
- Firstly, tailor your CV and cover letter according to the specific job you are applying for. Highlight relevant skills and experiences that align with the requirements of the position.
- Secondly, make it a goal to actively search and apply for five to ten job vacancies every day. Consistency and persistence are key when it comes to job hunting.
- Thirdly, seek out opportunities for on-campus experience that can prepare you for the professional world. If there are departments or organisations related to your field of study, reach out and ask if you can observe or volunteer with them. This will provide valuable exposure and enhance your understanding of your chosen career path.
Remember, job seeking can be challenging, but it is important to take it one day at a time and stay proactive. Make sure to send out at least five CVs every day and remain determined in your pursuit.
All the best, Kovsies.
